Genesis 12:1 - 13:4; Lesson 11

Genesis 12-13:4

1. Genesis 12:1 – 3 God commands Abram to “Go” leaving his country, people and father’s household with a promise that He will bless Abram’s seed making a great nation, blessing all peoples of the world and promising to bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.

2. Genesis 12:4 – 5 Abram did as the Lord commanded taking his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot and all his possessions traveling to the land of Canaan.

3. Genesis 12:6 – 9 Abram traveled to where God (giving him a promise of “To your offspring I will give this land.”) led toward the hills of Bethel where he pitched his tent where Abram built an alter to the Lord.

4. Genesis 12:10 – 13 When a famine came upon the land, Abram brought his family along but fearing for his life asked Sarai (who was beautiful) to lie to the Egyptians encountered that she was Abram’s sister and not his wife.

5. Genesis 12:14 – 16 The Egyptians saw beautiful Sarai, reported such to Pharaoh and then took her to Pharaoh’s palace heaping wealth on Abram for letting her go.

6. Genesis 12:17 – 20 The Lord inflicted diseases on Pharaoh and his household because of Sarai to which Pharaoh summoned, chastised and kicked Abram and Sarai out of Egypt for lying about Sarai to him sending them on their way with everything they had.

7. Genesis 13:1 – 4 Abram, now very wealthy, left Egypt traveling back to the Negev then to Bethel to where he had pitched his tent previously and where Abram had first built an altar.  He then called upon the name of the Lord.
